IDEA Sopot is a unique place on the map of Poland. Its unique character is due not only to its location—beaches, forests, and a rich tourist offer—but also to its architecture. The history of this seaside resort is reflected in its traditional buildings – beautiful tenement houses and villas, green avenues and squares that create the intimate, unique character of this place. In our concept, we decided to emphasize what we believe gives the plot of land that is the subject of the competition its unique character. Greenery and nature. During our site visit, this is what stuck in our memory. The color of green grass, beautiful old trees and shrubs – creating an amazing idyllic atmosphere. Ceramic roofs. Walking around the surrounding streets, we noticed the ubiquitous ceramic roofs, which give the whole area a traditional character and intimate atmosphere. Stone. The nearby stream, whose banks are reinforced with stones and boulders, combined with the name Sopot Kamienny Potok (Stone Stream), also seemed worth considering. The combination of these materials gives a surprising and creative result – the building is 100% in line with its immediate surroundings and context. The main entrance is emphasized by an overhang reminiscent of traditional arcades. The divisions on the stone veneer façade refer to the existing half-timbered kindergarten building. The roof is covered with ceramic tiles, giving the building a local and intimate character. The building is connected to its surroundings by an intimate public space along Obodrzyńców Street with a fountain and small architecture.
